Our travel continues to be very family focused as we head from Kansas City to Dallas. We tried a new stop in Carthage, Missouri at Camp Mi Casa. It wasn’t a very exciting campground, however, it was very close to the Katy Jack trail; a gravel trail for running and biking, which we definitely enjoyed. Our next destination was Arrowhead State Park in Canadian, Oklahoma, a peaceful campground on Lake Eufaula, that we have stayed at several times, due to its location and wonderful sites.
After a week’s rest, we headed to Lake Shore RV park in Garland, Texas to visit our daughter and son-in-law. As always, it was a great time full of lots of good food, games, birding, shopping, and biking. I helped out at their business, River Birch Candles, for several days, which I always enjoy; and helped give Erica a little more time to spend thrifting, shopping and biking with me. Mike and Erica went birding at the Trinity River Audubon Center and at the Dallas Southside Water Treatment Plant. Erica took the photos of the red-winged blackbirds and the egret in this post.
We also stayed in Ben Wheeler, Texas for a few days to visit my sister Laurie, and her husband Mark. They own Happy Cattle Beef, and sell locally grass fed/grass finished Beef. I really enjoy going with her to their local REKO Rings, (similar to farmers market) and seeing all the interesting local produce, food, and other products. Mike grilled some of their ribeye to serve them at our RV and also for family members in Georgetown.
The highlight of our visit to Georgetown, Texas was meeting our new great niece, and spending time with Mike’s brother John, wife Cheri, their daughter Alyssa, and her husband Matt. New babies are the best! Can’t get enough of that new baby smell! Mike’s brother Jim and his wife Kim were staying in Austin, and came to Georgetown for a wonderful family gathering with delicious food and a fun game of Pitch.
Next, we have a couple of new Texas stops before we head back to the Rio Grande Valley for the winter.
