One of the best parts of RV life is being able to visit family and friends all over the country, and still getting to sleep in your own bed! We love it, as it keeps the focus on just being together, and allows everyone to relax. Our first stop after leaving Colorado was the college town of Kearney, Nebraska. We have stopped here several times and really enjoy the RV park and the Kearney Hike & Bike Trail.
It was our first time staying at Lone Eagle Campground on Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, Nebraska. It is a huge lake, with 30,000 surface acres, and is Nebraska’s largest reservoir. We met our friends Tim & Theresa, who camp at this lake regularly. They had an amazing campsite and we had so much fun hanging out with them, playing games and riding on their jet skis. Unfortunately, Tim and Theresa and a devastating tragedy after this trip. Our prayers and love continue to go out to them daily.
Lake Cunningham in Omaha, is one of our very favorite county parks in the country. It has spacious concrete sites with full hook-ups, and is on a beautiful lake with great trails. It is a wonderful place for family and friends to come and enjoy the outdoors. We had several get-togethers at our site and absolutely loved seeing family; especially our nieces and their adorable children, as well as some special biking friends. Both of our birthdays are in September. El Muchacho Alegre in North Omaha was such a fun place with delicious Mexican food to celebrate with Mike’s family. They made him wear a big sombrero and drink a birthday shot while they serenaded him while serving him a birthday treat. The following day, we went to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Omaha, and enjoyed a lovely walk. It is really a cool bridge with beautiful views where you can actually stand in either Nebraska or Iowa. The Old Market is a must stop when you are in Omaha. This time, we just enjoyed window shopping and some ice cream at Ted & Wally’s. Last but not least, we were able to meet up with my college friends and their husbands at Sandy Pointe Lake In Ashland, NE. My friend Shawn and her husband Bruce have a house there. We had a pontoon ride around the lake and a lovely dinner.
Longview Lake in Lees Summit is our preferred campground in the Kansas City area. It doesn’t have any trails, but does have the nearby Longview road biking loop and the Rock Island Trail. The KC Chiefs Arrowhead and Royals Kauffman Stadium are on the trail, which is pretty cool! Most of our time in KC was spent visiting my 89 year old mom, and getting together with my sister Mary and brother Mike. Lots of meals, games, shopping and fun was had by all!
Heading towards Texas next to visit more family!
