We spent two wonderful weeks in Vermont. Our first location was Apple Islands Resort in South Hero on Lake Champlain. We had a great time biking on the Champlain Bikeways with views of the lake and Vermont country farms. We spent a lot of money at the local farm stands buying produce, eggs, maple syrup, cider donuts, slushees and delicious maple creemes. Yum!! We also found a cool birdhouse forest and miniature stone castles along our biking routes. There were four state parks in biking distance of our campsite: Sand Bar, Grand Isle, Niquotte Bay and Knights Bridge, which was really a treat. We had been looking forward to biking on the Island Trail and taking a bike ferry to the Colchester Causeway, but it was closed due to a construction delay caused by Covid. We still were able to go on the parts of the trail that were not closed. The main picture of this post is where we would have caught the ferry at the Causeway, and Mike is standing is on the boulders watching the sunset. We drove to Colchester to catch the other section of the trail into Burlington, which was beautiful. Mike had a great time birding at Delta Park while I biked.
Our next location was Prouty Beach Campground in picturesque Newport on Lake Memphremagog. The town was so quaint with flowers everywhere. The Beebee bike path ran right through our campground and to some fabulous country roads. Covid foiled our plans to visit Canada during our stay. We were literally a foot away from the border. We hope to be able to go next year. We still had plenty of things to keep us busy: hiking on the Jay Peak Trail to spectacular panoramic views of the mountains, visiting Big Falls State Park, hiking/birding Cove Trail and the Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area, and paddle boarding.
Next stop Maine!
