The weather in Washington finally seems like summer! We were supposed to stay at a few days at Hood Park on Lake Wallula; however due to the heat, and not having full hook-ups, we decided to extend our state in the Tri-Cities (Pasco, Kennewick & Richland). We stayed at Columbia Sun RV Resort in Kennewick for two and half weeks. We camped here for a couple days last year and liked the resort, but didn’t get a chance explore the area, so we booked a longer stay. We started our visit by driving to Palouse Falls and Lyons Ferry State Parks, which are in a very remote area. The drive was definitely worth it. Absolutely beautiful waterfall and views!
We often plan cleaning and maintenance when we stay longer in one site. We tackled the windows at the beginning of this trip; taking out all the screens and thoroughly cleaning them inside and out. Unfortunately, on the last window, Mike fell off the ladder! Thankfully, he just sprained his wrist and bruised hip and ribs. He had to take it very easy, and keep his wrist iced & elevated for several days. He watched a lot of baseball in the RV and was only was able to do a little birding at Chamna Natural Preserve and Bateman Island.
I did a ton of biking and running on the Sacagawea Heritage Trail while Mike recuperated. It is a fabulous trail along the Columbia River and forms a loop that connects Pasco, Richland and Kennewick. It was fun biking over the river on some cool bridges, but a little scary. I also enjoyed hiking Badger Mountain; but not so much having a huge snake cross the path in front of me. Yikes! I also hiked the Columbia Basin Audubon Trail, Yakima River Delta Natural area, and Chamna Natural Preserve.
We did like the area, but would not recommend for a long stay, as you can hit most of highlights in just a a couple of days.
Next stop Yakima Sportsman State Park!
