We moved quicker than usual and added three new states to our RV journey: Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. We have visited these states prior to our RV journey, but it was nice to visit some smaller cities and learn a little more about each area. It was colder than usual and rainy most days, however, we still got a chance to check out the local trails. Our RV campsite, Griff’s Valley View RV Park in Altoona, IA (just outside of Des Moines) was right next to the Chichaqua Valley Trail. It is so great just to head out on a run or a bike ride without having to get in the car. We both really enjoyed thi Chichaqua Trail. It was mostly rural and traffic was very light, which is optimal during this time of social distancing. Our next stop was scheduled to be in Camanche, IA, however, when we arrived the site was too muddy. Mike was worried we could get stuck, especially as more rain was forecast. There were no good options in the area, so we checked for availability at our next campsite, and made the decision head there. It was a long drive for Mike, but we were glad when we finally arrived in Champaign, IL. We had to stay in a partial hook-up site for the first night, so Mike had me practice driving and pulling into a new site. It was a good experience for me, and helps me to feel more confident. While we were in Champaign we explored Busey Woods,Crystal Lake Park, and the Kickapoo Trail in nearby Urbana, IL. We had nice time bird watching, hiking, running, and biking. Next we headed to New Castle, Indiana where we found the Wilbur Wright Trail with lots of cool bicycle sculptures.
Our next destination is Cincinnati, Ohio to celebrate with my sister and our twin nephews 2020 high school graduation.
