We have officially become Florida residents. In September 2018, we became residents of South Dakota, primarily because we bought our RV in Minnesota and had family nearby. However, Mike recently did some more research and discovered that we could save a substantial amount on insurance if we were residents of Florida. We had planned to visit Florida anyway, so it was a no-brainer to make the change.
Our visit to Central Florida has been pretty mellow. We chose RV parks off the beaten path that had enough stuff to do so we wouldn’t even need to leave the park. Suwannee River Rendezvous was a charming older park with river kayaking, pool and biking trails on site, as well as a restaurant, dog park and many activities. We took a several hour long kayaking trip on the Suwanee River and saw the Drew Bridge. I especially enjoyed several hikes, runs and bike rides in this country environment. There was even an adorable tiny little pig that got loose in the campground. It was hilarious to watch a local farmer trying to catch him.
We obtained our Florida residency in Sumter County, FL near Orlando. There were a ton of local farmer and flea markets. We definitely picked up some fresh produce. The flea markets were packed, so we skipped, as we definitely don’t need any more “stuff”. A little more than 2 years ago we had been in the area doing research for our RV purchase (see blog post from March 2017). It was fun to ride the Van Fleet Bike Trail again and see all the alligators, gopher tortoises and wild turkeys again.
We are heading towards Tampa and then the Ft. Lauderdale area next.
