We traveled to a new state in our RV journey, South Carolina. We had scheduled our annual maintenance for our Freightliner Chassis in Gaffney, SC. Unfortunately, at the last minute our service was cancelled due to the coronavirus, which surprised us as we thought this would be an essential business for truckers. Safety during the pandemic is of course paramount, and we know that we will need to continue to be very flexible on our journey. We ended up only staying in one campsite in South Carolina, but it was a little gem in the town of Santee. The Santee National Wildlife Refuge was only a mile away from us, so it was wonderful to be able to have such easy access to hiking, biking, birding and running, without having to drive.
We had a quick stop in beautiful Augusta, Georgia, home of the Masters Golf Tournament. It is a very quaint city with many gorgeous estates. The Augusta Canal Trail was the highlight of our trip. The trails were very wide and most were very good at social distancing. Next we had a brief stay just outside of Anniston, AL and visited Cheaha State Park, the highest point in Alabama. It was nice to see some hills and have some elevation changes after being Florida for so long. I also found a really cool place to run in Choccolocco Park.
Our next destination is a wonderful state park in Alabama as we head towards Texas.
