It seems like there are lots of questions on RV forums on how people prep before full-timing, so we’ll give a few details on our home sale process. Two years out, we did a pre-sale home inspection that generated a to-do list. We fixed, repaired and replaced items as needed. The hardest part was going through all of our belongings, especially Christmas and our children’s keepsakes, and deciding what we could keep, sell and give away. I made countless trips to Goodwill and sold a lot of stuff on Craigslist. We timed the sale of our home for mid-April, as our research indicated that this is when home sale prices are the highest. Since we had a lot of time to learn about selling a house, we did do it ourselves, and used an online service to post on the MLS and paid for a real estate lawyer to help us review offers. More experienced sellers may have done without the lawyer, but we liked having this expert advice. All our our hard work getting the house ready and certainly some luck, resulted in our accepting a full price offer after just a few days on the market. Your experience may vary! With a May closing date on our house, we had a few months before our RV adventure would begin, so we spoiled ourselves by renting a fully furnished high rise apartment until August. We went from a 2000 square foot house to 600 square feet, which was a good transition to RV living. We decided two toilets in the RV is a must have due to some shoving that occurred when we both “had to go” at the same time in the one bathroom apartment.
