Salem is the capital of Oregon. It is about an hour from Portland, and an hour from the central coast. It has a very cute downtown, many wonderful parks, and biking/walking paths along the Willamette River. We stayed at Premier RV Resort. We chose the resort because of its location and amenities; especially the Yurts. My sister, Mary, flew in from Kansas City to visit us, but especially to see our niece Hannah, her husband Jonathan and their daughter Sophie. The Yurt was definitely a hit with Sophie and gave Mary more privacy and space than staying in a hotel. We spent a lot of time at the resort pool, as it was very hot while we were in town. Fortunately, the weather was very nice in the morning and evening; which was great for running in Minto-Brown Island Park and exploring downtown.
Lincoln City Beach was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. It is definitely the most interesting beach we have been on due to all the rock formations and tide pools. Mike enjoyed birding, Mary finding shells and Julie loved just walking on this beautiful beach. Silver Falls State Park is also a definite must if you are in the area and love hiking and finding waterfalls(10).
The best part of course was visiting and eating great food with family. Hannah is a fabulous baker and Jonathan and Hannah make the best homemade pizza on their specialized grill. It goes without saying that Sophie was absolutely adorable and a delight to be around.
