We started out 2021 with a hike at Saguaro National Park (East), which is always a great way to begin a new year. Saguaro cactus can only be found in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, so it was pretty cool to be able to see so many of them. We enjoyed Javelina Rock, the gorgeous views and a spectacular sunset at this beautiful National Park. A blast from the past, my old boss, Chip Ponton and his wife and son, stopped by to visit with us at our RV while they were in town visiting family. It was great to see them and catch up. After a little more than a month at our winter site in Tucson, we took a road trip to Catalina State Park. It was so great to have a large site again with so much space in the middle of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains. The hiking trails were wonderful with gorgeous views. We even saw some coyotes on the trails. The Romero Ruin trail was very interesting with remains of an ancient Hohokam village and walls of an old Tucson family’s nineteenth-century ranch.
2021 is another unique year due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Mike started volunteering before Christmas with the Medical Reserve Corps in Tucson several days a week to administer vaccines, and he plans to continue through March. It is a nice change of pace for both of us. We definitely like having a little more time apart during this long term “quarantine”. As we do every winter while we are in one place for awhile, we try to tackle a number of projects. So far we have had our driver and passenger seats reupholstered, replaced seven of our eight RV tires (one was replaced last summer), upgraded our water hose, and lots of cleaning and organization. I have definitely been cooking and baking a lot more this winter, and we were thrilled to be featured in the cookbook, “Recipes of the Modern RVER”.
We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary this month. We were so fortunate to be able to dine at a lovely outdoor restaurant, “The Flying V” in the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. It was a beautiful 77
degrees outside and the sunset was amazing. We also took a scenic drive through Saguaro National Park (West) and continue to enjoy everything the Tucson area has to offer.
