It is wonderful to be back in Colorful Colorado! We tried something new and stayed at a Casino and RV Park in Towaoc, CO. Sleeping Ute RV Park had sufficient full-hookup sites and a wonderful hot tub. I did gamble a bit, just on some slots, and of course, lost it all; but it was still fun. Our drive to our next stop, Ridgway State Park, was spectacular, with beautiful snow-capped mountains on the San Juan Highway; however, it was very curvy and hilly! We love Southwest Colorado so much;it is our third time here with the RV. Ridgway State Park has very large full hookup RV sites with amazing views, and is a great place to stay and within a short driving distance to Ouray, Telluride and Montrose. At the Dallas Creek area in the state park, Mike ran into a park volunteer with a scope who showed him two immature Golden Eagles, and their nests from this year and last year. Very Cool! I enjoyed running and biking on the Uncompahgre RiverWay Trail from the state park into Ridgway and the section of the trail that is located in Montrose. Unbelievable mountain and river views!
Driving the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton, was even more special this time due to the snow-capped mountains. Just jaw dropping beauty the whole windy way; especially Bear Creek Falls that you can see for the road and seeing moose. Downtown Ouray (the Switzerland of America) is very quaint, with Cascade Falls and great restaurants; which we enjoyed several times. We also went to Box Canon Falls Park to see the amazing waterfall that plummets through a narrow gorge with incredible power. Ouray’s Hot Springs and Pool was very relaxing. I loved being able to swim laps in a very cold unheated pool, and warming up in the hot mineral springs with the beautiful mountain scenery.
The Bridal Veil hike in Telluride had multiple waterfall views and was amazing. The city of Telluride has such historical architecture, beauty and simplicity. The city is very bike friendly, with a wonderful paved trail that connects to many dirt/gravel single trail tack trails. I even had several elk cross right in front of me on my ride. Once again, the mountain and water views were stunning!
Western Colorado is definitely worth putting on your bucket list, if you have not yet visited!
