We normally travel at a leisurely pace and stay about a week in each campsite. The exceptions to this rule are primarily due to weather or when we have a destination that we need to be at on a specific date. In this case, we wanted to stay in warm weather before we headed to the Midwest for family reunions, so we planned some shorter stays for the next few weeks.
Our first stop in Georgia was the city of Lake Park, just over the Florida state line. We stayed in a cute, but older campground filled with huge beautiful trees and lots of little critters. Our favorite was a mama turtle who was burying her eggs right in our campsite (See our Instagram, Facebook or Twitter page for picture). We hiked at the nearby Madison Blue Spring State Park and saw a beautiful spring that you can swim in all year long, as the water is always 72 degrees.
On our way to Alabama, we had some engine issues and unfortunately needed to have our rig towed to Albany, GA to a Cummins Service Center. It was a long day, but we were thankful that it did not happen on a major interstate or in bad weather. The good news is that Albany, GA was very pleasant place to stay while we waited for service, we didn’t have to pay for the tow, and the repair bill was minimal. The highlights were a nice mountain bike ride in Chehaw Park and a crazy rooster who liked to hang out in the service center parking lot with us.
Our next stop was Auburn, Alabama at a family owned RV Park. The owners were so sweet and gave us a refund for the days we had already paid for, but were getting the RV repaired instead. We booked this site knowing that the Chewacla State Park mountain biking trails were just across the street, and they definitely did not disappoint! Mike and I biked for a couple of hours on this trail and had a blast on the rolling hills and switchbacks.
Next stops on our journey are Mississippi and Louisiana.
