Port Aransas, Texas has become one of our favorite beach spots. I.B Magee Park is a really nice, inexpensive campground with wonderful facilities. We especially like the upper deck beach view, ability to walk or bike to restaurants, shopping, birding spots, and of course just relaxing on the beach. The Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center is definitely Mike’s favorite spot. He was able to see several rare birds for the area during this trip; the Black Noddy and the American Flamingo. Julie took a jetty to San Jose Island for the first time and saw lots of sea turtles and dolphins.
Our daughter, her husband Shane and their dogs Timmy & Tucker met us in San Antonio. They stayed in a cute little cabin at Traveler’s World RV resort, two blocks from our RV site. We had lots of fun at the Riverwalk, the Japanese Tea Garden, bike trails, playing games and lots of good food.
South Llano River State Park in Junction, TX was our next stop. This park has 4 wonderful bird blinds that volunteers maintain, great hiking and biking trails, and is not very crowded. We saw the Chital deer for the first time. It is a, non-native species brought in by hunting ranches and of course escaped, and now competes with native species for food. Butterflies were definitely plentiful on the very common, but beautiful milk thistle. A very relaxing park!
Next are some quick stops in Texas off I-10 and New Mexico.
