We encountered some pretty nasty weather on our latest journey. Full-time Rv’ers definitely need to keep a close eye on the weather, as we have some challenges due to the mobility of our homes. In this case, we were aware of thunderstorms in the area and were monitoring the weather, when we heard the siren indicating a tornado warning. The position to assume when Rving in a tornado, is to put your head between your legs and……! Just kidding, although it truly isn’t very funny. Luckily there was a shelter nearby, and there were no injuries or damages in our area. Feeling very grateful and will be watching the weather even more closely this summer. The waterfall picture above was taken in the calm before the storm.
Our first stop after leaving Alabama was Meridian, Mississippi. We chose this destination because of the nearby Bonita Lakes mountain bike trails. We enjoyed this 11 mile trail with many steep climbs and long descents. However, we did not find the RV park we were staying in particularly pleasant. We awoke each night to dogs barking at 3 a.m., so we decided to leave this campsite early and head to Louisiana.
We had a lovely time in Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston, LA. It is actually one of our favorite parks we have stayed in so far. Our campsite was huge and had a gorgeous view of the lake. The highlight for us was the fact that it has the top rated mountain biking trail in Louisiana. It was very well designed and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to get to ride the trails multiple times during our stay. The park also had a public beach, walking trails and tons of things to do. There were several families of ducks that live in the park. Some even came to our site and got comfortable under our RV, which was fine until they “pooped”. Yuck!
While we were in Louisiana, we also participated in Global Big Day on May 4th. This is basically a day where people all over the world record the birds that they see in an application called e-bird. We saw several new birds, one of the cool ones was the Mississippi Kite
Our next destination is Texas, where we will be visiting family.
