We settled in our winter spot in the Rio Grande Valley in November, and have had so much fun with our new bikes. Mike got an electric hardtail mountain bike and I got a gravel bike. Mike is really enjoying biking to the nearby state park and butterfly center. I love having a bike that I can ride anywhere, road, gravel, mountain, etc., and look forward to riding it on trails all over the country. We are going to have to downsize our bikes though, as we currently have six!
It has been especially nice catching up with friends in our community, and having a meet-up with some fellow RVer’s that we found on Instagram, and have followed each other for several years “Blessed2RV”, Lupe and Philip. After a wonderful visit at Estero Llano Grande State Park, we met Philip and Lupe at one of our favorite mexican restaurants for a delicious meal. It was very nice to finally meet them in person.
Mike is always doing projects on the RV, especially in the winter. We have had an issue with some minor water leakage during major rain storms by the driver window. It was more difficult than we thought to take out the window, reseal and replace, but we were able to complete the task. We have to wait until a big rain to find out if we were successful.
In December, we took the RV to South Padre Island and tried a new campground, “Isla Blanca”. We really loved being able to see the beach and the boardwalk umbrellas from our campsite, and will definitely stay here from now on. The Island is especially fun at Christmas time and is not crowded. A great place to bike, bird and just relax on the beach. My brother Mike, also came to visit us in December for the first time. It was a pleasure to have him stay in our coach house and to show him around the area. We had a lot of fun at the beach, playing games and exploring the local parks.
The Christmas holidays were quiet, as our kids will come to visit and celebrate with us in early January to avoid all the travel hassle. We can’t wait!
Happy 2024! We hope you have an amazing new year!
