On our way to our winter destination, we stayed at three new campgrounds: Lake Brownwood State Park, the San Antonio/Alamo KOA and CM Natures Own in Kingsville, Texas. Lake Brownwood State Park is truly in the middle of nowhere between Dallas and San Antonio. It was a very quiet and peaceful park. We especially enjoyed the hiking/biking trails. The Texas Oak, Lake Side and Nopales Ridge were our favorite trails, as well as the beautiful lake. The San Antonio/Alamo KOA is right next to the Salado Creek Greenway, which was a biking trail we had not yet explored in the area. The Greenway had some gorgeous trees, spanish moss and a creek along the trail; and was not as crowded as the trails near the Riverwalk. CM Natures Own Park in Kingsville was an average RV park with pretty tight spots. It did have trails that you could take to Dick Kleberg Park, which was a nice birding spot and had paths to run/walk. We chose this destination because we had heard so much about Kings Ranch, and finally had a chance to add to our itinerary. It was a little cool and windy the day we visited, however, since we were in a tour bus, we able to stay comfortable. The tour was very interesting and provided a lot of history along with the beauty of the Ranch. We also stopped at the museum to learn more and see some of the cool artifacts. It was definitely worth a visit!
Next stop, the Rio Grande Valley in Texas for the winter.
