We started our journey south for the winter earlier this year but still managed to run into some unusually cold weather. We stopped in Ogallala, Nebraska and visited Lake McConaughy wearing shorts, and ended up leaving the next day to avoid the snow. Our next stop was Kearney, Nebraska, which I had not been to since I graduated from college. It was very nostalgic to see the university again and all the beautiful new buildings and changes to the town. I especially loved the new “The Archway” showcasing the history of Nebraska. The best part of the trip was visiting family and friends in the Omaha metro area. We stayed at the Walnut Creek Recreation Area in Papillion and really enjoyed being able to run and bike the trails next to our campsite. Mike had fun fishing with his brother Steve and we both went to a gun range with his oldest brother, Tom. I am pretty scared of guns and was surprised that I actually enjoyed shooting a rifle with a scope. It was more fun for both us than killing zombies in a video game. We definitely ate a lot of great food, especially our brother-in-law Frank’s fried fish and we had a blast playing cards and watching post season baseball games together.
Next stop Kansas City!
