We had a short and sweet stop in Monument Valley, Utah. We stayed a couple a miles away from Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in Arizona. This park has amazing sandstone masterpieces at heights of 400 to 1,000 feet. We took a beautiful drive and hike through the park, and were able to get very close to these amazing structures.
Our next campsite was in Dolores, Colorado located in the Southwest area of the state. This area is also called “Four Corners”, as you see and actually stand in 4 states at the same time at the Four Corners Monument. It is a beautiful area with tons of things to do and close to Mesa Verde National Park and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. We became fascinated with the Pueblo Indians and their amazing cliff dwellings located throughout Mesa Verde and Canyon of the Ancients. It was especially interesting to attend a ranger led tour of Cliff Palace, the largest cliff dwelling in North America.
Four Corners is a mecca for mountain biking and hiking. We chose to stay almost two weeks because the weather was excellent and take advantage of all the trails and gorgeous mountain views. The San Juan National Forest and McPhee Reservoir were across the street from our campsite, with the beautiful Dolores River. It was really nice to stay a little longer to enjoy the attractions and take more time to just relax and enjoy the views!
Now we are headed to Ouray County, CO known at the “Switzerland of America”.
