Lost Maples State Natural Recreation is one of the prettiest places in Texas hill country. It is located in the small town of Vanderpool, about two hours northwest of San Antonio. We loved the fall foliage of the uncommon Uvalde bigtooth maples, the limestone canyons and the views of the Sabinal River. The East Trail was our favorite with stops at “Monkey Rock”, the “Grotto” and several scenic overlooks. Our only regret was arriving too early to see peak foliage.
Lake Casa Blanca International State Park is located in Laredo, Texas, just a few miles east of the Mexico Border. The lake is very nice for fishing, boating or swimming, and the park has nice hiking and biking trails. It was a very quiet place to be in November, and we really liked our big campsite with full hookups.
We are now in our winter home in the Rio Grande Valley and wish you a very happy Thanksgiving with friends and family. You have probably noticed that our blog posts have gotten pretty short these past few years, as most of our followers are on social media. Unfortunately, the cost of our blog keeps going up, so we likely won’t continue to provide updates much longer. In addition, we are researching having Colorado become our primary residence; so our trips may be pretty routine between Texas, family in the midwest, and Colorado in the future.
We might post a few more times, but just in case, we want to let you know how much we have appreciated your support during our journey!
