After leaving the beauty of the Grand Tetons, we stayed in one of our least favorite RV Parks ever, Wind River RV Park, in Riverton, WY. It was in the middle of nowhere and definitely did not have a nice campsite or view. Fortunately, it was just for one night. Our next stop, was Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort in Spearfish, SD. It was a very nice resort with lots of nice amenities. We especially liked how close it was to Deadwood, and getting another opportunity to ride the Mickelson Trail. Sleepy Hollow in Wall, SD was another “dud”, that was within walking distance from the tourist trap, Wall Drug. It is worth a very quick visit, but just down the road is Badlands National Park with some amazing views and wildlife.
For the first time since we started RVing, Mike traveled in the RV solo, and I took the car to visit my parents, as my Dad’s health was declining. Mike went to Sioux Falls, SD for our niece Kylie’s wedding. Fortunately, I was able to spend one good day with my Dad and serve him his last meal of choice, biscuits and gravy. He went downhill very quickly and passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12th with his family at his side. Mike was in Omaha, taking care of his Mom, so he was able to attend the funeral. Our children also flew down for the funeral and burial, which meant the world to me. They also made the trip to Omaha to visit with their Grandma Rome. Mike stayed with his Mom for several weeks to work on arrangements for her to move into an apartment in assisted living. Fortunately, I was able to stay with my Mom for a month after the funeral to help her with the difficult transition. I will forever be grateful that I was able to spend this time with my parents.
Mike traveled solo to six sites during this time. He was able to have some down time and mountain biking in Bella Vista, Arkansas. I finally met up with him at Arrowhead State Park in Canadian, OK. We are both really looking forward to heading to the Dallas area and spending time with our daughter Erica, and her husband Shane.
