The Grand Canyon was the first destination of our second year of full-time RV life. It was on our bucket list for so long, and we are grateful to be able to have the opportunity to spend a week there. The Grand Canyon is 277 river miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and a mile deep. We stayed on the South Rim in Trailer Village, one of the few “full hook-up” campsites within a national park. It was easy to get around the park via the shuttle or on our bikes. We attended a “Ranger Talk” on the California Condor, and actually saw one right before the talk. Hiking in the park really made us understand the saying “Going down is optional, coming up is mandatory”, had to be careful how far down we went, because coming back up the trails was a challenge. We really enjoyed the Bright Angel and Cedar Ridge trails. It was especially interesting to go on a group hike with “Ranger John” as he explained the formation of the canyon and other interesting info. We saw a lot of elk, mule deer, squirrels and chipmunks all throughout the park. The elk took some getting used to as we encountered them quite frequently on our bike rides and in our campground. It was a great experience to take in all the history, information and see all the views during our stay.
Next stop Monument Valley, Utah!
