We stayed at West Glacier RV Park for eight days, which really gave us the opportunity to take our time and explore. The RV Park is only two years old, was only one mile from the west entrance, half a mile from shops and a bike trail. The best part of our visit was being able to bike on the “Going to the Sun Road”, as much of it was still closed for snow plowing, and was not open to vehicles. It was so amazing to be able to stop and really enjoy all the majestic views on this famous scenic road. I also enjoyed riding the park bike trails and Camas road. We have been on a quest for the best huckleberry pies and treats since we have been out west, and Glacier has a lot of great options. We especially enjoyed the Huckleberry bear claws at Polebridge Mercantile on our drive to Bowman Lake. The water in all the lakes and streams is such a beautiful turquoise blue, due to ground up bits of rock and sediment referred to as “glacial flour”. The movement of the nearby glaciers erodes the bedrock providing a continuous source of “flour” to the lakes. Unfortunately with only 25 glaciers left, the color of the water may not last much longer. Kayaking on Lake McDonald on this gorgeous water, was one of the highlights of our trip. The hiking trails definitely were spectacular, especially the Avalanche Lake Trail.
We are now headed to the east side of Glacier National Park toc continue our adventure.
