Our stay in Ft. Myers started with our 32nd wedding anniversary, which we celebrated in the River District area along the Caloosahatchee River. It has brick streets and lots of funky shops, restaurants and beautiful sunsets. We had a nice romantic dinner and enjoyed walking by the river in downtown Ft. Myers. Our RV park is also on the river and we have a great view of the sunset every night from our campsite.
Sanibel Island has been on our bucket list of places to visit in Florida and we checked it off the list on this trip. It is a beautiful island with a gorgeous beach, miles of biking trails, many wonderful parks and natural areas. We really enjoyed biking and birding at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, the Pond Apple and Shipley Trails.
There was a brief snap of cold weather, and it brought tons of manatees to the park in Ft. Myers. Kayaking on the Orange River right next to them was very cool! We also had a lot of fun mountain biking in Alva, FL at Caloosahatchee Regional Park. The volunteers did a great job building the trails for fast biking with lots of switch backs and obstacles. It was a blast!
