Our trip to Flagstaff brought us the first snow we have seen in 2024; beautiful snow-capped Humphreys Peak, the highest point in Arizona at 12, 633 ft. We stayed in a really nice resort called Village Camp, in Bellemont. It had a beautiful pool, hot tub, restaurant and a direct view of Mount Humphreys. Historic downtown Flagstaff’s architecture, shops and markets were quaint and trendy. Our favorite activities though, were exploring the trails and nature in the area. Mike had some good birding on the Aspen Nature Loop Trail at the Arizona Snowbowl, and at the Kachina Wetlands Preserve. Our favorite hike was definitely the Griffith Spring Trail, due the variety of wildlife and plants we saw. Julie really liked running at Buffalo Park and biking the forest roads next to Village Camp; especially riding to Lava Cave. The Flagstaff Arboretum was interesting, however, as it was mostly native plants, there weren’t many flowering plants in early June.
Next State: Colorado and cooler weather!
