We spent the last two week and a half weeks in the Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando metro areas. First we stayed at the Topeekeegee Yugnee Park in Hollywood, FL, which was our first stay at an urban RV Park. It was wonderful to be so close to so many great beaches, state parks and other great attractions. The park had a nice lake, running and biking paths and a water park. The RV sites were spacious and the park and restroom were very clean. It was not so wonderful, however to be near traffic and train noise. We were pleasantly surprised after a day or two that it actually was a pretty quiet park and an overall pleasant experience, with lovely sunsets and iguanas occasionally running through the campground.
The first thing we did after we got set up in our campground was to get on our bikes and ride to the Yellow Green Farmers Market, which was just a couple miles away. We had a great dinner and picked up some local produce for the week. We visited Ft. Lauderdale Beach and Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park for some hiking and relaxing. We went to Vista View Park to see some burrowing owls and to Long Key Nature Center where we saw a ton of butterflies. Our favorite location was Markham Park which had some surprisingly good mountain biking trails for Florida. We had to pay a fee to ride, which is what allows them to build the obstacles and add some elevation. I really loved how it was set up with areas to practice skills and do some beginning trails before going on the more challenging trails. We rode separately most of the time, so Mike could go on some of the expert trails, while I stayed on the intermediate trails. After we finished our ride, the park actually had bike washing stations to clean our bikes. We definitely don’t clean our bikes as much now that we are full time RVing, so this was a great bonus.
In our Full-time RV adventure, we are never in a hurry and are mindful that we are retired and not on vacation. Mike really helps to ensure that we maintain a moderate pace and just enjoy each location, instead of trying to visit as many sites as possible and eating out all the time. We really like life in the slow lane and truly feel at home wherever we park our RV. While we were in the Orlando area, we mostly just relaxed and did routine RV cleaning and maintenance. We did take a nice bike ride in the Buck Lake Conservation Area and enjoyed the wildlife and just being in nature for a couple of hours. Life is Good!
We are going to start to head to the Midwest to visit family and will be in Georgia and Alabama next.
