We spent the month of December in Tucson, Arizona and are loving it. This is our third winter full-time Rving, and we keep mixing up our destinations to meet our goal of staying warm. Tucson is definitely cooler than Southwestern Florida and the Rio Grande in Texas, but has many other advantages. Having trails nearby is always high on our list when we reserve RV sites, and Tucson hits it out of the park with over 100 miles of paved paths and great mountain bike trails. The best part is the trails are right outside our door through a back gate of our RV resort. I am in heaven being able to bike and run everyday with amazing mountain views, without having to drive anywhere. Tucson also has many good birding opportunities that Mike has been taking advantage of. We love to see hummingbirds on our RV feeder, and one of our favorite birds, the Vermillion Fly Catcher is very common in the area. On one of our birding trips to Sweetwater Wetlands, we actually got to see a small bobcat from about 20 feet away in the bushes, which was pretty cool. It is a quieter Christmas this year and most RV parks aren’t crowded, which is a definitely a plus. The RV resort we are staying in has limited activities and is following strict Covid guidelines, but we can still enjoy the hot tub (2 person limit) and reading by the pool. Our neighbors are very friendly and one of them shared his telescope with us so that we could see the “Christmas Star”, when Jupiter and Saturn were so close together. It was amazing to see with such magnification. Many of the traditional Christmas events were cancelled, however, we did get to enjoy a socially distanced stroll in the Tucson Botanical Gardens with holiday lights, which was very festive. We are missing our family especially this year, but will make do with a “Zoom” Christmas, to keep everyone safe.
Wishing you and yours a Blessed Christmas!
