Ahhhh Acadia! We absolutely loved Acadia National Park. We stayed at Smugglers Den Campground in Southwest Harbor. The campground is located in the park and was within walking or a short bike ride to multiple hiking trails, restaurants, a grocery store, etc., which was really convenient. If you are not an RV’er, they have cabins and tent camping available. After we got settled in and explored the campground, we ordered take-out from Beal’s Lobster Pier and hopped on our bikes to go pick it up. We rode to the Seal Wall picnic area to enjoy our delicious “lobstah rolls” and the beautiful rocky coast. The next morning we got up at 4:45 to watch our first Acadia sunrise, and it was definitely worth it. We hiked a lot of trails, too many to mention, and they all had spectacular views. The trail around Jordan Pond was really lovely and the best part was eating hot popovers when we finished our hike. The weather was beautiful the whole time we were in Acadia, however, we had two foggy mornings. Thunder hole, Sand Beach and Cadillac Mountain in the fog, were still beautiful to see. A guided kayak tour was one of the highlights of our trip. It was great to see wildlife, especially harbor seals, along with the gorgeous views. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we decided not to take boat tour to see the puffins and whales, something we will definitely do the next time we visit in autumn in a few years to see Acadias beautiful fall foliage.
