While we continue educating ourselves on Full time RVing, life goes on. We usually go to the mountains in late October to enjoy the fall colors, hike, and mountain bike. This season we picked Douthat State Park in Millboro, VA. We stayed in Cabin #11, one of several originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. They are renovated with central heat and air but still show the techniques used to build these log cabins.
We tried trekking poles on our hikes and found they really helped support old knees and allowed us to go further and more safely than before. The mountain biking trails were challenging due to elevation and what seemed to us like miles and miles of straight up with no breaks. We walked more than we expected, but still really enjoyed some really nice trails with switch backs and rolling hills. A busted pedal caused us to split up for a bit on our last day. Julie went hiking and Mike went mountain biking. We each had a walkie-talking to communicate where we would meet on the trail. Note to selves, allow for “alone time”. While we survived the week in a small cabin, similar to an RV, the separate bike and hike gave us a break from one another. I mountain bike faster than Julie and she hikes faster than I so we both enjoyed our time alone.
